North West

Alfred Hitchcock and Helmut NewtonIt would seem that Alfred Hitchock’s cinematic oeuvre serves as an endless pool of inspiration for subsequent artists and creatives. Hitchcock’s 1959 film North by Northwest features a chase sequence in which an unsuspecting Grant is hunted down by a crop dusting plane like a bird hunts its prey. In 1967, photographer Helmut Newton, who had an affinity for gender-bending, would swap in a female protagonist to recreate a scene much like Grant’s famous Hitchcockian chase sequence.
