Richard Rutledge and Steven MeiselWhen compared to his widely recognized contemporaries, Richard Rutledge remains relatively obscure today. Little is known about the slightly enigmatic photographer, however, a fondness for the color red is evident in his countless images that featured cherry-colored lacquered nails and dresses of crimson. True to form, a 1954 Rutledge image featured a couple of red-clad models engaged in a game of cards played from opposite sides of a diner-style booth. Published in Vogue’s July 1, 1954 issue, Rutledge’s image inspired the confectious Spring 2012 campaign for Louis Vuitton, photographed by Steven Meisel
