Strike Gold

6.15 Deborah Turbeville and Nicholas KernFashion Editor turned photographer Deborah Turbeville, who recently passed this last October, is remembered for her grainy, soft-focused images that depicted and above all celebrated women. Ultra-femme with an underlying darkness, Turbeville’s work would make its way into the pages of Mademoiselle and Vogue by the 1970s. For the August 1st, 1977 issue of Vogue, Turbeville would photograph a trio of nude models (barely clothed, grouped women was a frequent theme in her oeuvre) accessorized in glittering gold wares that evoked a classical era. Turbeville’s image would later serve as inspiration to photographer Nicolas Kern for Interview magazine’s Golden Goddess editorial which showcased jewelry from Dolce and Gabbana’s Greco-themed SS 2014 collection.
