In the spring of 1947, Christian Dior presented his debut collection, unknowing of the impact he would make on the history of fashion. Although this look was not exclusive to Dior’s collections, (Cristobal Balenciaga and Lucien Lelong had featured similar silhouettes in their collections) and versions of the new silhouette had appeared in the couture collections of 1945 and 1946, it was at Dior’s 1947 fashion show that The New Look style was identified with Dior as its major proponent. The most well-known ensemble of the collection was the Bar Suit, which has taken on a life of its own since its creation. For Dior’s first issue of Dior Magazine, photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino photographed Marion Cotillard in the famous suit, straight from the archives of Dior.
