Adapted from a single-set play, Dial M for Murder was shot almost exclusively in the living room interior of Tony and Margot Mary Wendice, played by Ray Milland and Grace Kelly. Hitchcock reportedly chose the script for its simplicity, needing a break from his previous, more ambitious projects, shooting the entire film in just 36 days. In 2008, Vanity Fair dedicated their March issue to the director, paying homage to several of his films. Photographed by Norman Jean Roy, 11 scenes from Hitchcock classics were recreated in an editorial starring contemporary actors. In the restaged Dial M for Murder scene, Charlize Theron portrays a terrified Grace Kelly, moments before her attempted assassination.
