Georges de La Tour and Peter LippmannGeorges de La Tour revisited the subject of the Penitent Magdalene at least four times throughout his career, all with subtle variations and slight compositional nuances. In La Madeleine à la veilleuse, housed at The Louvre, de La Tour depicted a barefoot Magdalene aglow in the light of the flame in which she stares, seemingly meditating. Vanitas themes typified by the skull in her lap and the small ephemeral flame represent life’s fragility. For Christian Louboutin’s FW 2011 lookbook campaign, photographer Peter Lippmann recreated several of history’s most well-known works of art, including and perhaps likening the red Louboutin sole to a work of art.
