Richard Avedon and Giampolo SguraUpon hearing that Nastassja Kinski was fond of animals, particularly snakes, Richard Avedon photographed the German actress naked, apart from a large Burmese python coiled around her nude body. Although Avedon captured the precise moment the snake would touch his tongue to Kinski’s cheek, Avedon does confess it was an incredibly difficult shoot. The snake could not be positioned or guided and Kinski had to adjust her body to the snake’s unpredictable movements. To highlight the trend of reptile skinned accessories, Antidote Magazine’s FW 2011 Corps à Crops editorial, photographed by Giampolo Sgura, featured model Ashley Smith accessorized with shoes and handbags in reptile prints, along with a variety of actual snakes similarly coiled on her naked body.
