Horst P. Horst and Tim Walker

German born photographer Horst P. Horst built a prolific body of work photographing high society, fashion and architecture for American and French Vogue. Submerged in the avant-garde culture of the interwar years, Horst photographed surrealist artist Salvador Dali’s costumes for the ballet entitled Bacchanale, of which Dali designed the set, costumes and wrote the libretto. Taking a cue from Horst’s whimsical and fantastical image, Tim Walker photographed models Olga Sherer and Alice Gibb in the editorial It’s a Magical World for Vogue Italia’s January 2008 issueIn the image, Walker photographed similar diaphanous puff costumes on puppet-like models propped up with crutches.
